KINO.NET AG has emerged seamlessly from the various film companies set up by Steff Gruber in the past: Steff Gruber Filmproduktion (founded 1973), Shady Grove Films, Athens Georgia, USA (1975), Alive Productions GmbH (founded 1976), Vérascope Film AG (founded 1989)
With all these companies the principal focus was on the production of auteur films by Steff Gruber. Up until the 1990s Steff Gruber also produced films to commission and was involved in co-production projects. This was the way in which films were created for the ESCO travel company, the Dow Chemicals and Agfa Gevaert companies, the C.G. Jung Institute and the producer Walter Saxer.
